CO₂ and CO gases released during human respiration can reach dangerous levels in confined spaces. In addition to breathing, contamination may also enter the area through leaks in the compressed air line carrying carbon monoxide–free air, or through the main door during entries and exits. High exposure to these gases can cause symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and mental confusion.

The AYSAN Scrubber System, activated at this critical point, is suitable for all types of refuge stations. Our systems can be adjusted according to the number of people inside the chamber and changing environmental conditions, removing toxic air through chemical cartridges and the main filtration mechanism.

The Scrubber System’s touchscreen interface provides safe and easy operation with user-friendly icons and a built-in voice guidance system. The audio prompts guide users step by step on how to operate the system and replace chemical cartridges. It can detect changing gas levels and provide alerts in case of an emergency.

The system uses long-shelf-life, pre-packaged AYSAN chemical cartridges that are easy to handle and install. The cartridges are placed into the Scrubber System; once activated, the fans pull contaminated air through the chemical media, capturing hazardous gases and toxins. The purified air is then released back into the refuge chamber environment.

Safe gas level information for breathable air is displayed on the inner wall of the refuge chamber and included in the operation manual, depending on the number of occupants.
